When I read Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City, I got swept up by the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago, otherwise known as the Colombian Exposition.
Such beauty, grandeur and spirit. How I wish I could have gone – without running into the diabolical Dr. Holmes, of course.
The Chicago Architecture Foundation does offer The Devil in the White City tours, but while they may be good, they can’t capture the full power of the World’s Fair since most of the buildings were destroyed afterwards.
