Silk Museum

Suzhou’s Silk Museum is free and offers visitors a chance to see the history of silk and how silk was made long ago. It just takes about an hour to go through the exhibits, which offer lots of English explanations. The highlight for me was the workshop where weavers create beautiful patterned silk using old looms.

Not far from the museum is a silk retailer, Kaidi, Ltd. Probably a young man will encourage you to see the shop and you should. Yes, it’s a ploy to get you to buy, but they also have a good demonstration of silk making today. The salesrooms have clothing and bedding for all budgets.
