Each week Sepia Saturday provides a prompt to inspire bloggers with some nostalgia or history. This week, as I see the rain outside my window, the prompt is particularly apt. The Library of Congress has some wonderful Japanese woodblock prints from the 19th century.
Here’s what I found in digital archives.

. Japan, None. [Between 1890 and 1940] Photograph. https://www.loc.gov/item/2008660884/.
Above is a Japanese woodblock print (ukiyo-e).

. Japan, None. [Between 1827 and 1840, printed later] Photograph. https://www.loc.gov/item/2009615162/.

Love your choices to match the prompt! Something rather interesting and a little different. 🙂

Yes, I started out looking for black and white photos and got sidetracked in a fun direction. Thanks for visiting.

P.S. I found that vinyl raincoat of mine with the raindrop cutouts & added it to my post. Guess I should have looked a little harder online for it in the first place! 🙂

Perfect illustrations! I recognized the first one but like all three. That kind of driving rain is unique to some climates. I used to see it when I lived on the Atlantic coast, but here in the mountains of North Carolina those heavy sheets of rain are not common.

I lived around Kyoto and we didn’t have such rain, I’m not sure what sort of rain they get in Tokyo. Thanks for dropping by.

What an original take on the prompt, and thank you for introducing me to artwork I had not seen before.
