Weekend Coffee Share

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’m almost ready for Christmas. I’ve got some wrapping and shopping to complete but not much. We are hosting dinner on Christmas here for my brother Jim’s family and my brother Bill’s family will come for dessert, so I realize at times things will be frantic. They always are, but it’s welcome.

Last night my sister in Utah hosted a Zoom cocktail party with a Bingo game based on Christmas carols and a family holiday trivia game.

I might be late, but I’ve finished the paperwork to throw my hat in the ring to be a Trustee on my town’s Library Board. As much as I use the library, I may be considered an outsider as I haven’t held public office here.

Starting with my dad asking if I could find his father’s obituary online, I’ve delved into the world of genealogy. I’ve found out that his ne’er-do-well grandfather married twice after abandoning his wife and six living children. The family knew he went to New Orleans and was married. Census records show he married twice. This great-grandfather had the unusual name Columbia J. Kelly so he’s easier to track than a John or a Joseph. I’ve done some digging into my mother’s side of the family too. The problem there is using FamilySearch.org via my library, I’ve connected with a family tree that’s already started. It’s confused my uncle and grandfather and I can’t seem to correct it. Genealogy is fun detective work, but I’m not sure I’m up to it. You can spend lots of time and get no where.

I suggest trying Geni.com for family trees and genealogy research as some features are free.
