Weekend Coffee Share

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!

If we were having coffee, I’d suggest you go out and see the Christmas lights in your area before they’re taken down. It’s just the thing to add some cheer. Last night my mother and I went out for a drive around a few nearby neighborhoods and enjoyed the lights, both simple and extravagant. Since I was driving I didn’t get any pictures but the one below is of a house I saw on Saturday.

On New Years Day and Saturday I ventured out to a couple different churches. This is part of my new (i.e. three years old) tradition of visiting churches known for their beauty. On New Year’s Day I went to St. Stanislaus Kostka, where I’ve visited before, and on Saturday I went to St. Hyacinth Basilica, which was new to me. I love the baroque grandeur.

I just spoke with a friend, who suggested I check for unclaimed money for myself or departed relatives. You should too. I just searched for “unclaimed property” and Illinois. Then I just searched by my name and a couple relatives. I’ve found two refunds due me that were immediately approved. Each was under $100 and I don’t know how much they’re for, but I should get the money in 10 days or less. For the ones for my grandmother, I need to provide proof she’s my grandmother, which I can. The total on that is over $200. It didn’t take much time. Getting the documentation will take time. My friend has discovered thousands of dollars. Some of these are stock certificates, refunds or closed bank account. Even though I didn’t find a fortune, it’s fun to pick up some money.

I’ve made my 2021 New Year’s Resolutions, but now realize I want to make some Social Media resolutions. I’d like to cut back on how much time I spend online. I have to mull over what I should do.

I watched The Booksellers, a charming documentary about people who sell rare books. If you like books or collecting, you’ll like this film that can be streamed on Kanopy (through your library for free) or Netflix. In addition, I’ve partaken of BBC America’s Doctor Who marathon with Peter Capaldi, episodes I hadn’t seen.
