Every week Sepia Saturday challenges bloggers with a visual prompt and this week the prompt above has an equine theme. Since the Kentucky Derby is next week, I’ve looked for images of the “Running of the Roses.”

A bookie, unsung hero

Bookies have a tough job figuring out the odds and how much each winner’s owed. Now they can use spreadsheets or apps, but not in 1941.

I had never thought of a bookie as an unsung hero, but I guess they were! Great photos for the theme.

I would say a bookie would have to be rather sharp at math! Whew. 🙂

My favorite here is the one of Montrose. What a gorgeous horse, and so beautifully rendered. A shame it was used to sell tobacco! https://mollyscanopy.com/2021/04/undaunted-seventh-blogiversary-atozchallenge/

Too easy these days with computers and other technological aids. Still I guess experience and knowledge still play a large part.
