Weekend Coffee Share

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!

If we were having coffee, I’d say this week sped by. Where did the time go?

Wednesday was a weird day when everything that was scheduled didn’t happen. My book club was canceled, but I didn’t see that email. Luckily, I get a week more to finish my reading and it was on Zoom so I hadn’t driven anywhere. This gave me time to leave early for the Chicago History Museum.

For the first time in 18 months I went to the research center at the Chicago History Museum to do some research for a play I want to write. The research center now requires an appointment and there are just 6 a day. Wednesday there were three of us. You also now tell them beforehand what you’re looking for and it’s ready and waiting for you when you come. I was looking through microfiche newspapers from the 19th century. It was time-consuming because there’s no index or keywords with microfiche so I did a lot of scanning for each day within the period I need. Along the way I found a lot of other stories like one about a serial polygamist who’d been jailed for marrying 10 women. When he got out he married number 11.

I finished reading Augustown for my Saturday book club, but then an earlier appointment ran late so I missed the discussion, which ended early. C’est la vie.

Mother’s Day was full with a brunch with one brother and his family and later dinner with the other brother and his family. One niece and one nephew were out of town, but one nephew was able to come in from Virginia for the week. Lots of good times despite the chilly temps we’ve had.

Oh, all that research for the play sounds interesting but hard at the same time. The story about the polygamist sounds fascinating.

  2. I love research, and don’t get or take enough opportunities to do it. Love the set up that they have materials ready for you. Also great that your book club meeting was on zoom, so you were not the only person to show up somewhere. May your research and writing be fruitful! Michele
