Weekend Coffee Share

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!

If we were having coffee, I’d hope it would be beside a fireplace because it’s rainy and chilly today.

I’d tell you that I had a terrific time in Lake Geneva last Saturday with the book club. The club’s organizer has a wonderfully simple, rustic cabin up there and we spent most of our time on the porch, which is surrounded by trees and flowers that attracted plenty of birds. After a yummy potluck lunch, we walked down to the lake. I’d forgotten how large Lake Geneva is. Since it was sunny and in the low 80s F/27°C, there was lots of activity on the lake.

On my way home, I met a friend in Gurnee for dinner at The Chocolate Sanctuary, which features chocolate in most of their dishes. It was Restaurant Week so we got the prix fixe meal. I think my favorite dish was the butternut squash soup with cocoa, though everything was good.

St. Alphonsus

On Sunday, I visited another beautiful church, St. Alphonsus in Lakeview. I love the sapphire blue ceiling!

I just started reading the novel Solaris, which inspired two films. The book is terrific and has grabbed me from the start. As is often the case, there’s a lot of backstory and insight into the hero’s thinking that’s not in the films. Another book I’m reading is Dervla Murphy’s Full Tilt, which chronicles her trip via bike from England to India.

Yesterday while searching high and low for an item I sold on eBay, I found a cache of family photos of my father’s side of the family. I’m thrilled and will be sharing some from time to time.

I just scanned my father’s, aunts’ and uncle’s high school portraits, which were all in sepia tones. They look much more classic and expensive than the color photos we do today.

That blue ceiling takes my breath away. Hope you have a good week.
