Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!
If we were having coffee, it’d be in the shade in the morning before it got up to 90°F (30°C). I wilt in the heat.

Tuesday I went walking at The Grove, a nature center not far from me that I’d never been to. They have a wonderful center where you can see live snakes, huge turtles, reptiles and a wide array of taxidermy.

The Kennicott family moved to The Grove in the 19th century and their son Robert was a naturalist. Robert explored Illinois and Russian Alaska.

Sunday I went to St. Mary of the Angels for their tri-lingual (English, Spanish, Polish) mass and Corpus Christi procession. The children were encouraged to wear their first communion clothes. Two little girls strew flowers at the front of the procession.

Yesterday I got my haircut. I went into the city and taking the train was quite nice. The cars are super clean and there aren’t many riders so you aren’t crammed together. I wasn’t totally surprised that a lot of the shops along my 4 or 5 block walk were out of business. Quite a shame.
I finished reading Stanislaus Lem’s Solaris after watching both film adaptations. I’m not a sci-fi fan, but this was compelling. I’ll put up a review soon.
My library’s renovated lobby opened up. It’s very modern, with lots of self-check out machines, which are very expensive. It’s nice and airy, but it’s a pity that there’ll be less human contact. I suppose that’s our coming Brave New World.
Today Illinois is now in stage 5 of COVID Reopening. As I understand, this means if you’re fully vaccinated you don’t need to wear a face covering inside venues. Also, large buildings can allow 60% occupancy. There’s no need to sign up to attend church. Churches are still offering online services.

How nice to hear about the reopening! And going to church… I really miss it. I hope it will go well for your state with no setbacks.

I hope so too. I hope all cities and towns can soon return to normal.

It’s not bad… pubs and restaurants have opened here for outdoor service. So far so good but we’ll only know for sure how everything is doing, when winter comes.

Hello! I’m late getting around to everyone this week. The nature center sounds interesting…the stuffed duck head was odd…lol. My dad used to be a taxidermist. He was really good.
