Weekend Coffee Share

Weekend Coffee Share is a time for us to take a break out of our lives and enjoy some timely catching up with friends (old and new)!

If we were having coffee, I’m shindoi, a Japanese slang term (Kansai-ben) for tired, body and soul. The crazy siege last week and the ensuing ripples have sent me looking for calm and sensibility.

It’s January and a time to hibernate, though with the lockdown, that means some hibernation isn’t chosen. But it’s doable. Keep calm and carry on.

I did read Trinity, a fascinating quick read. It’s a graphic history about the Atomic Bomb.

A friend and former coworker reached out to one of the food pantries where we went to get people to do the census and we’re going to volunteer there once a week starting next week.

I’ve been good about walking every day. To avoid the cold and ice, I go to the closes mall. It’s nice to be around other people of all ages even if it’s 6 feet apart.

We went out to dinner with my brother and my sister-in-law to thank them for hosting us for Christmas Eve and Swedish Christmas. (That’s not an official day, it’s when she made a Swedish dinner the Monday after Christmas.) The restaurant was full though the tables were distant. Lots of heat lamps in a glass structure. Again, nice to be around people chatting and laughing.

I’ve gotten hooked on this charming DYI program Escape to the Chateau

I applied for a library job as a Learning & Development Coordinator. It’s essentially what I did in an internship and combines my library and instruction background. It’s not too far from here and the pay is great for libraries. Fingers crossed. I’m hopeful, because few librarians have this combination of skills.

I just saw a job in a library for a manager of a makerspace. I’ll apply as it’s a library with a good reputation and the pay is also good. I have worked in makerspaces and supervised teachers and Census workers.

Still no word from the State of Illinois about my unemployment claim. I’m glad I do have a healthy rainy day fund. I emailed my State Senator and her assistant got back to me to say I’m on their list of people with this problem. How long is that list?
